|Veronika Vitkova of Czech Republic scored the first individual victory of her World Cup career by winning the Oberhof women’s 7.5K sprint in 22:40 with two penalties. Italians Dorothea Wierer and Nicole Gontier finished second and third, 8.8 and 19.1 seconds back. Wierer had a single penalty, while Gontier was one of only two women in the field to shoot clean.
Vitkova who also brought her relay team home in first on Wednesday was equally thrilled with her first win, commenting, “ I love the atmosphere here…It was my day.”
Franziska Preuss of Germany finished fourth, 22.5 seconds back with one penalty, while Mari Laukkanen of Finland finished fifth, 23.9 seconds back, with two penalties. Vitkova’s teammate Gabriela Soukalova was sixth, also with two penalties, 24.8 seconds back.
