German Day at OECH

Two of the athletes on the podium after this afternoon’s men’s 20K individual were German, just like in the women’s 15k this morning. Gold went to clean-shooting Daniel Böhm who covered the distance in 48:20.7. Second place went to Artem Pryma of Ukraine, who also shot clean but was 1:06.7 slower. Bronze went to Böhm’s teammate Erik Lesser with two penalties, 1:31.7 back.

Gold for Zagoruiko

Anastasia Zagoruiko of Russia won the women’s 15K individual competition at the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon. She finished in 42:44.1 with one penalty, 46.5 seconds ahead of Germany’s Juliane Döll, with two penalties. Third place went to Döll’s teammate Carolin Hennecke also two penalties, 1:07.4 back.

Anti-Doping Seminar at IBU OECH

The IBU held an Anti-Doping Seminar at the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon, to educate young athletes and their coaches. Dr. Fabio Manfredini presented information about forbidden substances, the anti-doping rules and health issues to the interested participants; then answered their questions.

Russians Victorious in Men’s Pursuits

Russia celebrated victory in both the men’s and junior men’s 12.5K pursuit competitions this morning at the IBU Open European Championships in Osrblie, Slovakia. In the men’s competition, Alexey Volkov finished ahead of Serhiy Semenov of Ukraine and Germany’s Daniel Böhm in the men’s competition. All three had one penalty. Alexandr Loginov topped two Norwegians Vetle Sjastad Christiansen and Johannes Thingnes Boe for the junior men’s title, with all three racking up two penalties each.

Pidhrushna Wins Women’s Sprint

Olena Pidhrushna of Ukraine won the women’s 7.5K sprint at the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon with clean shooting, while flying around the tracks in 20:23. Second place went to her teammate Valj Semerenko, with two penalties, 29.4 seconds back. Bronze went to Poland’s Weronika Nowakowska-Ziemniak with one penalty, 35.5 seconds back.

Gold for Bulgaria

The second Gold medal of the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon went to Bulgarian athlete Niya Dimitrova. She won the junior women’s 7.5K sprint today with clean shooting in 21:09.3. Second place went to Iryna Varvynets of Ukraine with one penalty, 15.1 seconds back. Bronze went to Elisa Gasparin of Switzerland with one penalty, 29.1 seconds back.

Christiansen Wins Junior Men’s Sprint

Vetle Sjastad Christiansen from Norway won the junior men’s 10K sprint at the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon today. He had a single penalty while finishing in 23:55.7. Next to him on the podium were two Russians, Alexandr Loginov, who was perfect on the shooting range but 1 second slower, and Maxim Tsvetkov with one penalty, 34.4 seconds back.

IBU Open European Championships Opens in Osrblie

The IBU Open European Championships in Osrblie, Slovakia opened last night with a big Ceremony in Brezno’s main square. From today through next Thursday, men, women and junior men and women will compete for European Championship medals. Today, the junior athletes will start with sprints, followed by the senior athletes tomorrow. On Sunday all age groups will fight for pursuit glory.

Beltran and Picin Lead Race for SACH Titles

The South American Cup 1 Biathlon competitions were held in Portillo, Chile last weekend. Athletes from Chile, Argentina and Brazil as well as guests from the USA competed in individual, sprint and mass start competitions. These competitions also make up the first part of the South American Championships biathlon, with the second part conducted in Bariloche, Argentina, at the end of August. Mirlene Picin of Brazil and Pedro Beltran of Chile currently lead the race for the championship titles.
