Neuner Drags Germany to Relay Gold

The German relay team of Andrea Henkel, Miriam Gössner, Tina Bachmann, and Magdalena Neuner won the women’s relay Gold medal in 1:13:31.1, with two penalties and thirteen spare rounds. Neuner who took over in fourth position, 1:07 back literally dragged her teammate to the Gold medal with good shooting and her normal spectacular skiing. The Ukraine finished second, 24.5 seconds back, with four spare rounds, while France with nine spare rounds claimed the Bronze medal, 47.2 seconds back.

Biathlon Interest Continues to Grow

IBU President Anders Besseberg, at today’s IBU Press Conference reaffirmed that in this nearly-concluded season the sport has continued to grow on all fronts, as exemplified by the high level of competition, with eleven nations winning medals at the IBU World Championships Biathlon here in Khanty Mansiysk.

Svendsen Sprints to Mass Start Title

Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway made his move for the men’s mass start World Championship with 400 meters to go today, claiming the victory in 38:42.7. Svendsen had one penalty, but finished five seconds ahead of clean-shooting Evegeny Ustyugov of Russia. Lukas Hofer scored the first World Championship medal as well as his first podium at this level as he took the Bronze medal, with one penalty, 14.3 seconds back.

Neuner Skis to Mass Start Gold

Magdalena Neuner of Germany overcame four penalties today to capture the Gold medal in the women’s mass start competition in 36:48.5. Darya Domracheva of Belarus, leading after the final standing stage, finished second, with three penalties, 4.8 seconds back. Norway’s Tora Berger, also with three penalties, took the Bronze medal, finishing 14 seconds back.
