Excitement Rises While Temperatures Drop

While the thermometer showed icy temperatures of minus 18 degrees, teams from 30 nations in Beitostoelen, Norway prepared for the first IBU Cup competitions of the 2010-11 season. As usual, several World Cup athletes are also doing a bit of final sharpening here before the World Cup season starts in Östersund next Wednesday.

Austrian Team Prepares at Home

For most biathletes the “cold” preparation period begins now, as most of the teams do their final camps on snow before the competition season starts. While many fly to Scandinavia because of the guaranteed early snow, the Austrians came back from Sjusjoen, Norway to Obertilliach. There, an early bout of winter with heavy snowfalls in late October enabled the preparation of tracks that are currently about 5k long. Once the temperatures drop over the next few days, these tracks will be extended for up to 15K.

OC Ridnaun Prepared for 2011 Open European Championships

Everyone in the Ridnaun-Ridanna valley is well-prepared for the IBU Open European Championships (OECH), which open in about four months. Approximately 400 athletes from 40 nations are expected to participate in the week-long competition.

Dedicated Organizing Committees Preparing Presque Isle and Fort Kent Venues

An IBU delegation inspected the E.ON IBU World Cups 7 and 8 venues in Presque Isle and Fort Kent, USA Tuesday through Thursday last week. Presque Isle will host its first IBU World Cup while Fort Kent has previous experience from 2004.

Ruhpolding Biathlon Stadium Ruhpolding Construction on Schedule

The shell of the biathlon stadium in Ruhpolding, Germany, has been completed. Upon reaching this construction milestone, Ruhpolding officials and several high-ranking guests from sports and politics celebrated the topping out last Friday. This ceremony, according to Ruhpolding mayor and OC President for the World Championships Claus Pichler, was mainly a celebration for the workers.

Russia Dominates Junior Sprints

Andrey Turgenev of Russia and his teammate Anastasia Kalina won the first individual titles at the IBU summer Biathlon World Championships in Duszniki Zdroj, Poland today. Turgenev was faster than his teammates Maksim Burtasov and Evgeny Petrov in the junior men’s sprint. Kalina took the junior women’s title ahead of Tatyana Trachuk of the Ukraine and another Russian, Svetlana Perminova.

Start field reduction confirmed

The IBU Member Federations decided at the 9th Regular IBU Congress to reduce the start fields at the World Cup and IBU Cup. After an extensive discussion the decision of the Executive Board, to newly regulate the number of athletes, who are allowed to start per nation, was accepted with 28 to 18 votes. Sunday Live Broadcasts of Winning Bid for 2015 IBU World Championships and Congress Wrap-up Press Conference

The IBU will broadcast the announcement of the winning bid for the 2015 IBU World Championships live on Biathlonworld TV tomorrow, Sunday, September 5. However, an exact time is not available. A press conference that will be held just after the end of the Congress sessions a will also be broadcast live. It is currently scheduled for 12:30 local time but is subject to change should the Congress sessions run longer than expected.
